Gukje International Market

Gukje (International) Market in Jung-gu is Busan's largest traditional marketplace, born from the chaos of the Korean War when refugees set up stalls selling US military surplus goods. Today, the sprawling market complex covers dozens of interlocking alleys selling everything from imported goods, fabrics, and electronics to traditional Korean foods, housewares, and military-style field goods. It gained wider fame as the setting for the hit Korean movie 'Ode to My Father' (2014). Neighboring Bupyeong Kkangtong Night Market adds a festive food-stall dimension every evening. Together with BIFF Square and Nampo-dong, the area forms one of Busan's richest cultural and historic districts.
