Sorimsa Temple (Busan) Overview

Daehan Jogeukjong So-ryungsa was founded in 1913 by the monk Song-yeong, and was taken over by the nun Jung-geung in 1945, right after liberation. In 1948, it was renovated into a Korean-style Buddhist temple and actively carried out protection of the temple and religious teachings. So-ryungsa is the birthplace of the popular Buddhist community in Busan and is a representative temple that has trained leading lay Buddhists in the Busan region. It has continuously held the Sanrim Law Meeting for over 60 years, and also conducts various religious ceremonies and prayers. The front halls of So-ryungsa include the Muyangsu-don and the Daewong-don. In the Muyangsu-don, the main Buddha image is Amitabha Buddha, with Guanyin Bodhisattva and Jizhang Bodhisattva images enshrined on the left and right sides. Inside the Muyangsu-don, there are the Shinjungdan, Chilseongdan, Doksongdan, and Sansindan. The Daewong-don enshrines the Shaka-Muni Buddha image, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and Dasejibodhisattva, and also houses the Jizhang Bodhisattva, Hongphag Daesa, and Bungdong Myeongwang Buddha images.
