Geumsusa Temple (Busan) Overview

Gunsu-sa is a small temple located beneath Gubongsan Mountain. In front of the Gunsu-sa steps, Sanbok-doro is clearly visible, and there is a bus stop right in front, making it a well-known urban temple that is convenient for public transportation use. Gunsu-sa is also famous as the head temple of the Wonhyo Sect of Korean Buddhism. The temple, which was established in 2003, is a place where many monks and lay followers have gathered to uphold the teachings and practices of the master Wonhyo, and thus it is truly a temple that embodies the master Wonhyo's spiritual philosophy of awakening sentient beings in the midst of ordinary people, rather than in remote mountain settings. Located on the historical site where the enduring legacy of the Korean Buddhist master Wonhyo is preserved and where the heroic legacy of the national hero Sa-myeong-dae-sa, who saved the country from peril, remains, Gubongsan Gunsu-sa now proudly upholds the banner of Il-bu-hong-po. Furthermore, within the temple grounds, there is a monument dedicated to national heroism, and the temple annually holds memorial ceremonies honoring the 33 national representatives of the Gimi Year Declaration of Independence, as well as 22 patriotic independence activists including An Jung-geun, Kim Ju-jin, An Chang-ho, and Yoon Bong-gil, thereby clearly establishing its status as a temple of national heroism.
