Okjeongsa Temple Overview

Yukjeongsa (Yujing Temple) is a temple founded in 1835 during the Hwonjong era, originally located only on temple grounds that were abandoned and later restored by the monk Park Gonyeol in 1907. It is a malssa (monk's residence) of Bulguksa Temple situated on the slopes of Daleumsan Mountain. Daleumsan Mountain is famous for being the mountain where the first rays of the sunrise over the East Sea reach Korea. At that time, Park Gonyeol built a small thatched house and a cave on the former temple site donated by his village friends, inviting monks to practice meditation there. Subsequent expansions and renovations followed, and in 1994, sacred relics of the Buddha were brought from Sri Lanka and enshrined in a three-story stone pagoda. In 2020, Gijang-gun developed the Bongbaek Forest Dulle-gil Trail near Yukjeongsa, creating healing spaces such as walking paths and forest rest areas to support visitors' well-being.
