Taejongsa Temple Overview

Taejongsa Temple is a temple located within Taejongdae Park, established in 1976 as a temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. In September 1983, it received the Buddha's true relics and a Bodhi tree from the Sri Lankan government, through the introduction of Korean student Oh Byung-mun from Sri Lanka. Within the grounds of Taejongsa Temple, there are approximately 3,000 hydrangea plants forming a cluster, which bloom fully during the flowering season, displaying a magnificent display of floral fragrance. The abbot, Do Seong-saam, has been gradually planting hydrangea plants over the past 40 years, collecting them from renowned temples and mountain monasteries both domestically and internationally, resulting in the formation of this hydrangea cluster. Since 2006, a hydrangea flower festival has been held annually in early July. In addition, regular ceremonies such as the Tockbap Dharma Assembly in the middle of summer, the Seongdo-il Dharma Assembly, and regular rituals, as well as special events, are held.
