Songdo Village Overview

Songdo Village is a natural village located in Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, named Songdo because of the dense forest. There is no known information about the formation period of the village. It is unclear whether Songdo Village existed before or after the establishment of Songdo Beach, but it is said that the entire coastal area around this region was exclusively designated for Japanese people prior to Gwangbok. This area belonged to Amnam Office of Busan Prefecture during the Japanese colonial period, and in 1951, a Seo-gu branch office was established, and in 1957, it was designated as Amnam-dong in Seo-gu. After Gwangbok, Songdo Beach gained popularity with the construction of a cable car (demolished in May 2002) connecting it to Geumdo Island, and as a tourist destination, the village flourished with an increasing number of raw fish restaurants. In 1963, Songdo Village became part of Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, and in 1995, it became Songdo Village in Amnam-dong, Seo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, and has continued to the present day.
