Former Baekje Hospital, Busan Overview
Busan Gu Bakje Hospital was the first modern private comprehensive hospital in Busan, established in 1927 by Choi Yong-hae. At that time, it was a considerable-sized hospital and, along with Busan Buryup Hospital and Chorodong Hospital, became known as one of Busan's three major hospitals. After closing, it was transformed into Bongnae Gak, a high-end Chinese cuisine restaurant, and later served as a residence for officers of the Akatsuki unit stationed in Busan. After liberation in 1945, it was used as the office of the Busan Security Command. In 1950, it was used as a temporary embassy and consulate, then purchased by an individual and used as a wedding venue in 1953. Currently, the fifth floor has been demolished and the building is occupied by cafes and general commercial establishments.
