Dongmyeong Bulwon Temple, Busan
Dongmyeong Bulwon Temple, Busan Overview
Yongdang-dong Yongbi Mountain hosts Dongming Buddhist Temple (Dongming Bulwan), established by Go Gang-seok-jin, president of Dongming Wood Products, in hopes of national prosperity and his parents' well-being in the Pure Land, as a blessing for the Dongming family who work at the Dongming industrial site. While most Korean temples follow traditional Korean architectural styles, this temple reflects Southeast Asian influences, featuring a straight, extended dragon tower and housing the Buddha's hair relics excavated in Myanmar. The gilded Buddha statue installed here is the largest wooden Buddha statue in Korea, with a weight exceeding that of the Emile Buddha, and it is the largest in terms of scale in Korea. The temple's main statue features a dragon carved on the base of the statue, a unique technique not previously seen. Inside the Daewong Pavilion, statues of the Buddha at the center, the Myeongbu Bodhisattva on the right, and the Geuha Galabodhisattva on the left are enshrined. The hall features a unique architectural style without pillars, with a dragon head harmonized at the center of the ceiling, and celestial Buddhas carved on the side walls. The temple includes Jukseong Hall, Nahan Hall, and Guamyeong Hall, and the Chilseong Tower, Sanseon Tower, and Doseon Tower are designed with two floors, where Buddhist scriptures are displayed on the second floor.
