Beomnyunsa Temple (Busan) Overview

Beomeosa Temple is a temple located in Bokcheon-dong, Dongnae-gu, Dongnae, Busan. This site is believed to be the location of Georichalsan-guk mentioned in the Samguk Sagi, and is based on the Bokcheon-dong ancient tomb complex where gold donggwan and weapons have been unearthed, as well as the settlement of Haksodae where the Haksodae community lived collectively. The Haksodae site, rising prominently in the heart of Dongnae, is surrounded by lush evergreen trees, making it an obvious place where the Haksodae community once thrived. Beomeosa Temple was originally established as the Po-gyo-dang of Beomeosa Temple, and has historically served as a center for popular education, promoting literacy through the Yaguk movement and cultivating popular education and national spirit during the March 1 Movement. Beomeosa Temple established a total of five Po-gyo-dangs for educational outreach in the Busan region, of which four have since disappeared, leaving only the Dongnae Po-gyo-dang to maintain the lineage. As such, Beomeosa Temple has long served as a central hub for public education in the modern Yeongnam region. Although located in the urban center, Beomeosa Temple boasts beautiful scenery and is surrounded by numerous tourist attractions such as the Dongnae Bokcheon-dong ancient tomb complex.
