Mireuksa Temple (Busan)
Mireuksa Temple (Busan) Overview
Mireuksa is a temple built by the great master Wonhyo in the same year that the great master Uisang founded Beomeosa Temple. Here, the huge rock behind the Yeomhwajeon hall, located in the center, is called 'Jwaseon Rock' (Meditation Rock) because it looks like a monk sitting in meditation. This rock is made up of several rocks fitted together like a mosaic, and after sunset, when the cracks between the rocks can no longer be seen, its shape becomes clearly visible when viewed as a whole. Behind this Meditation Rock is a rock resembling the Maitreya Buddha, and it was on this exquisite site, where the Meditation Rock appears to be meditating facing the Maitreya Buddha, that Wonhyo built a place of prayer. The name Mireuksa is also said to have come from this.
