Johyun Gallery Overview

Jo Hyun-hwa Lang introduced the current state of Korean contemporary art, and actively promoted Busan's art scene by discovering local artists and organizing diverse experimental exhibitions. At its opening in 1989, it hosted multiple exhibitions of key figures in the Korean modern art movement—Nam Seok-geun, Park So-bo, Lee U-hwan, Yoon Hyung-geun, and Kim Gi-ryun—representing the dominant monochrome style in Korean abstract painting. This demonstrated both an early insight into Korean abstract painting and a deep understanding of Korean modern art movements, forming a crucial foundation of Jo Hyun-hwa Lang's character. It consistently introduced leading figures in contemporary art, and recently received acclaim for exhibitions featuring Kim Jong-hak, Lee Bae, Kwon Dae-seop, Kim Tack-sang, Jin Mayerson, Bosco Sodi, Bernard Pivot, Claude Viallat, Jo Ru-ju Luts, and Aya Takano. Furthermore, it has organized essential exhibitions that cannot be overlooked in the history of Korean modern art, and actively supports the artistic activities and international exposure of prominent artists such as Gang Gang-hun, An Ji-san, Lee So-yeon, and Jo Jong-seong, whose unique artistic worlds have drawn significant attention. Currently, it actively participates in international art fairs, playing a leading role in presenting contemporary modern art to the global community.
