National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation
National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation Overview
The National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation was established with the purpose of fostering mature historical awareness and providing public education on human rights and world peace by revealing the reality of forced mobilization during the Japanese colonial period. Since Busan Port served as the main departure point for forced mobilization during the Japanese colonial period and some forced mobilization victims were from Gyeongsang Province, the decision to establish the museum in Busan was finalized in September 2008, taking into account the historical significance and accessibility. Inside the History Museum, exhibits of personal accounts, photographs, and collections gathered by the government are displayed. The museum also includes a memorial tower and a memorial pavilion (memorial hall) for honoring victims of forced mobilization, and an Experience Center and a children's library named Dodo Dodo, which serve not only as a "place for remembrance and commemoration for survivors" but also as a "space for historical education on forced mobilization under Japanese rule.
