Busan Metropolitan City Myeongjang Library

Busan Metropolitan City Myeongjang Library was opened in March 1994 and holds more than 130,000 books and more than 10,000 non-book materials. In addition, as a designated library specializing in electronic resources, it supports local residents’ access to digital materials.
Its main programs include holiday reading classes for children, reading groups, reading seminars, and the operation of “Reading Month” and “Library Week,” along with providing various book reviews and recommended reading guides to promote reading culture and encourage citizens to make reading a part of their daily lives. It also offers a variety of beneficial lifelong education courses to help citizens acquire knowledge and engage in lifelong learning.
The first floor consists of a children’s room equipped with books, newspapers, and magazines for infants and children, a discussion room for lectures, a cultural lecture room, and a men’s reading room. The second floor features a periodicals room housing newspapers, magazines, publications from government agencies and various organizations, internal newsletters, and pamphlets; a digital resource room with non-book and audiovisual materials for internet searching, video viewing, and language learning; and a women’s reading room. The third floor has a general collection room where materials on all subjects, including encyclopedias, reference books, and other legal codes, are available. The basement level contains a preservation archive, a cafeteria, and a convenience store.
