KOEM Marine Environment Education Center (Busan)
KOEM Marine Environment Education Center (Busan) Overview
The Busan Marine Environment Education Center is the country’s only specialized institution for spill response training. Established in 2010 in the Dongsam Innovation District of Yeongdo-gu, Busan, the Marine Environment Education Center is equipped with a team of professional instructors, dedicated lecture halls, a large auditorium, and dormitories. In accordance with the Marine Environment Management Act, it conducts Marine Pollution Prevention Management Personnel Training, which must be taken at least once every five years by technical personnel working in marine pollution prevention management and marine environment management services. Following the “Hebei Spirit” oil spill accident on December 7, 2007, it has strengthened spill response training and drills to prepare for medium- to large-scale pollution incidents, and provides various educational services to raise awareness among the general public and students about the importance of the marine environment. In addition to Marine Pollution Prevention Management Personnel Training, it offers a variety of educational programs, including specialized spill response training and marine environment education for all citizens. In particular, it utilizes a wave-breaking basin equipped with an artificial shoreline for on-site, practical training.
