Geumjeongsanseong Fortress Overview
Geumjeongsanseong Fortress is Korea's largest mountain fortress, built in 1703 (the 29th year of King Sukjong of the Joseon Dynasty) around Geumjeongsan Mountain in the Geumseong-dong area of Geumjeong-gu, Busan. With a total circumference of 17.3 km (17,337 m), it is the longest mountain fortress in the country, and today its four gates (east, west, south and north) and about 4.2 km of the walls are preserved.
The North Gate section is the best preserved, and trekking from the North Gate to the South Gate is the most popular course. The view of downtown Busan from atop the walls is spectacular. Inside the fortress there are makgeolli houses selling Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli, brewed the traditional way (designated Traditional Food Master No. 49), so enjoying a drink after trekking is the classic course.
Combine it with Beomeosa Temple (10 min by car) and the Geumgang Park Cable Car (20 min by car) for a complete one-day Geumjeongsan Mountain theme tour.
