Hwangnyeongsan Beacon Observatory Overview

Hwangnyeongsan Beacon Observatory is a hidden gem in downtown Busan where you can take in Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Haeundae and Busan Port at a glance. It can be reached by hiking trail or by road, so anyone can visit without difficulty. You can enjoy the panorama from the deck at the summit and look around the Joseon-era beacon site as well, experiencing history and nature together. With its beautiful sunsets and night views, it is a place where you can enjoy Busan's history and cityscape at the same time. The Hwangnyeongsan Beacon at the summit was a Joseon-era military communication facility that sent urgent news, such as enemy invasions, by smoke during the day and by torchlight at night, and it already existed before 1425 (the 7th year of King Sejong's reign). It relayed signals received from the Gubong Beacon in Choryang to the west on to the Ganbiosan Beacon in Haeundae to the east and the Gyemyeongsan Beacon to the north, and the Chungmugong Jeonseo (the collected works of Admiral Yi Sun-sin) records that on April 14, 1592, when the Imjin War broke out, the beacon guards here reported that Japanese troops had invaded Busanpo. The present beacon was restored by Busan City in 1976 after an academic survey to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port, and the beacon observation deck was completed in November 2016.
