Busan Citizens Park
Busan Citizens Park Overview
Busan Citizens Park is an ecological park established in 2014 in the former U.S. military camp Hialeah located in Buaam-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan, and is the largest complex ecological park in the heart of Busan. The site, which had been closed off from citizens for nearly a century, has been returned and restored to the public, carrying significant historical meaning.
Camp Hialeah was originally used as a horse racing track during the Japanese colonial period and later became a U.S. military base after liberation. For over fifty years, public access was blocked, and after the U.S. military base was relocated in 2010, the site was returned to the city of Busan, and approximately 470,000 square meters of vast land was reborn as a citizens park.
The park is composed of five thematic zones: Memory Plaza, Culture Plaza, Fun Plaza, Nature Plaza, and Participation Plaza. It includes a historical exhibition space preserving the history of the U.S. military base, a large open plaza, an outdoor performance venue, a children's play area, and a pet play area.
The trail within the park, featuring lush trees and wide grasslands, stretches to a total length of 4.3 kilometers. Citizens continuously fill the park throughout the year to enjoy nature, walk, jog, and have picnics.
