Democracy Park
Democracy Park Overview
Democracy Park, located in Busan, opened on October 16, 1999, the 20th anniversary of the Bumah Democracy Protest. It was established to honor and carry forward the profound sacrifice spirit of Busan citizens, which has been continuously expressed through the April 19 Democratic Revolution, the Bumah Democracy Protest, and the June Protest.
Inside Democracy Park, the Democracy Protest Memorial Hall's second floor features a permanent exhibition space called "Always Opened Exhibition Hall," the third floor has a special exhibition space called "Caught Opened Exhibition Hall," and the first floor has performance halls (large hall, small hall) that are used as a multifunctional cultural space for international conferences, academic events, various lectures, and performances of music, theater, film, and dance.
Externally, there is a Jangseong Terrace, where Jangseong statues of the National Unification Grand Patriarch, the National Peace Grand Patriarch, the National Unification Grand General, and the National Peace Grand Patriarch are erected. Additionally, the park includes an outdoor theater where dynamic events and performances are held, a memorial courtyard honoring those who passed away during the democratization movement, an observatory, and the April 19 Square.
