Gamcheonsa Temple (Busan) Overview

Gamcheonsa Temple is a place where it is said that even during severe droughts, the water does not dry up, and water continuously rises from the underground bedrock throughout the year, serving as drinking water for nearby residents. Gamcheonsa Temple is a small practice ground for nuns located on the slopes of Myobong Mountain in Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, Busan. Situated against the gentle ridge of Myobong Mountain on the west side of Baes Mountain, the main mountain of Yeonje-gu, this temple is located not far from the Yeonsan-dong residential complex because it was founded with the vow to quench the thirst of sentient beings. The taste of the water at Gamcheonsa Temple, passed from mouth to mouth, has also gained fame as the officially certified medicinal water of Yeonsan-dong by the Yeonje-gu Office, making it well-known as an urban temple where visitors’ footsteps never cease. Furthermore, Gamcheonsa Temple, located side by side with Hwewonjeongsa Temple, a representative urban propagation site in Busan, across a narrow alley, is also highly renowned as a place for praying to Avalokitesvara, not only for its medicinal water but also because the prayers to Avalokitesvara enshrined in the Daeungjeon Hall are said to be highly effective. Although its scale is small and its history of foundation is short, it has become widely known through word of mouth among prayer seekers.
