Busan Museum of Modern and Contemporary History (Annex) Overview
Busan Museum of Modern and Contemporary History is a place that preserves the original buildings from the Japanese colonial period, such as the Busan Modern History Museum (formerly Dongyang Cheokseok Company, American Cultural Center), and the first-generation Korean architectural building, the former Busan Branch of the Korean Bank, and has restored them in their original form. The annex of Busan Museum of Modern and Contemporary History operates as a complex cultural space (Lakibium) combining the functions of a Seo-gu cultural hub, a record center, and a museum. The annex building is an example of early modernist architecture, reflecting the architectural trend when Western-style architecture was introduced during the modern period. In the central part of the exterior wall, there is a sculpture with a climbing plant motif, and around the windows, there are sculptures shaped like lotus flowers. On the first floor, there are bookshelves, material search desks, information desks, and spaces for humanities events and performances. On the second floor, there are exhibition items and panels, as well as information videos, allowing visitors to view historical materials, news articles, artifacts, photographs, and related documents from that period. On the third floor, there are offices, meeting rooms, and document storage rooms. It is a museum where visitors can experience and enjoy Busan's modern and contemporary history as a living history site.
