Gijang Daebyeon Port

Gijang Daebyon Port (대변항) in Gijang-gun is Busan's most important anchovy fishing harbor, responsible for roughly 60% of Korea's annual anchovy catch. In spring (March–June) when the anchovy boats return at dawn, the air is thick with the smell of the sea and the port buzzes with energy as fresh catch is unloaded, salted, and dried on bamboo trays in the sun. Visitors can buy dried anchovies directly from the boats or at the bustling fish market. A variety of fresh seafood restaurants surround the port, serving anchovy ssambap (anchovy wrap rice) — a local specialty. The scenic coastal road connecting Daebyon to Gijang town makes for a great morning drive.
